SUNSHINE IN THE STARS

SUNSHINE
The Electric Stars return with a Psychedelic melting pot of sunshine!
One thing I admire about The Electric Stars is they make no attempt to shy away from their influences and there are plenty to be found on their latest single, Sunshine! These influences are woven together beautifully to create the perfect summer pop song.
Sunshine draws you in immediately; from the opening Stones like riff, through to the jangly guitars, hand claps and catchy chorus however, there is much more going on here.

At first it is as if you are listening to The Byrds or the La’s but this soon starts to turn into something The Times may have come up with around the time of A Splash of Colour. Even the song’s artwork seems to capture that wonderful but oh so brief period of Psychedelic revivalism from the early 80s.
Sunshine continues to evolve into a beautiful piece of psychedelia with flanging effects and an end guitar solo that wouldn’t be lost on Craddock or Weller circa early 90s.
A well-crafted song that is deserving of a much bigger audience that it is likely to attract, such is the state of the music business theses days.

THIS IS THE END
The second offering is a beautiful ballad in the Primal Scream vein. Well written and produced, simple and to the point.
At first I felt slightly cheated as I was expecting the song to build into a crescendo with choir and the works.
I’m not sure this would have added anything but it was kind of where I was expected to be taken. On reflection, I think maybe its simplicity is its strength and helps make This Is The End such a beautiful melancholy tune.
